ICO to JPEG Converter FAQs

Our converter is designed to automatically select the largest and highest-quality image stored inside your ICO file to use as the source. Using the biggest available version, such as a 256x256 pixel image, provides the best possible starting material for creating a sharp and detailed JPEG.

The most common reason is to extract a high-resolution version of an application icon or logo for use as a standard image. This allows you to easily share it, post it on social media, or include it in documents and presentations where the special ICO format is not supported.

This change occurs because the JPEG file format does not support transparency. When the converter processes your icon, it must replace any transparent areas from the original file with a solid, opaque color. By default, this fill color is almost always white.

Not always perfectly. JPEG uses lossy compression, a method that is highly optimized for photographs, not for graphics with sharp lines. This can sometimes introduce subtle fuzziness or compression "artifacts" around the clean edges of your icon, especially if you choose a lower quality setting.

You can easily control this by clicking the settings icon after uploading your file. This will reveal a quality slider, typically from 1 to 100. A higher setting will create a larger file with better quality that's very faithful to the original icon, while a lower setting will produce a smaller file but may introduce more visible flaws.
