GIF to WBMP Converter FAQs
Your GIF will be transformed into a single, static, black-and-white image. The converter will first take only the very first frame of your animation, discarding the rest. Then, it will convert all the colors in that frame into either pure black or pure white pixels, removing all color and gray tones completely.
This converter exists almost entirely for legacy support. WBMP is an obsolete format created for the first internet-capable mobile phones in the late 1990s. The only practical reason to perform this conversion today is if you need to support an extremely old device or embedded system that was designed to only handle the WBMP format.
The transparency will be completely removed. The WBMP file format has no capability to handle transparency. During the conversion, any transparent background or pixels in your source GIF will be filled in with a solid, opaque color, which is typically white.
The harsh appearance is a fundamental limitation of the WBMP format. It's a 1-bit monochrome format, which means it doesn't support any shades of gray to create smooth transitions between black and white. Every pixel is forced to be either 100% black or 100% white, resulting in the stark, jagged look known as aliasing.
No, for any modern purpose, a black-and-white PNG file is a much better choice. A PNG is universally supported by all browsers and image viewers and offers superior compression. A WBMP file is obsolete, not supported by most software, and offers no advantages over a more compatible and modern format like PNG.
