GIF to EPS Converter FAQs
The EPS format doesn't support animation, so the converter will analyze your GIF and extract only a single, static frame to work with. In almost all cases, this will be the very first frame of the animation. The rest of the animation is discarded during the conversion process.
This conversion creates a scalable vector file, but it's an automated image tracing process, not magic. For a very simple, high-contrast logo, the result can be quite good. However, for a complex GIF, the final EPS will be a simplified or "posterized" approximation of the original, not a perfectly redrawn, clean graphic.
The primary reason for this unusual conversion is to gain scalability from a graphic that might only exist as a small GIF. While the source quality is limited, converting it to an EPS allows you to enlarge the resulting vector shapes for use in print without the extreme pixelation you'd get from simply stretching the original GIF.
The converter uses the limited color palette of the GIF to its advantage. It will identify the areas of solid color and create distinct vector shapes that correspond to them, filled with those same colors from your GIF's palette. This can make tracing more straightforward than it would be from a full-color photograph.
For the best possible result, you must start with an extremely simple source GIF. A high-contrast logo, a basic icon, or simple clipart with clean lines and solid colors will be traced most effectively. A photographic or highly detailed GIF will result in an overly complex and messy EPS file that is very difficult to use.
