EPS to BMP Converter FAQs
You'd typically convert a vector EPS file to a BMP primarily for compatibility purposes. While EPS is excellent for professional design, many simpler image viewers, older programs, or specific applications can't open or properly display them. Converting to BMP creates a straightforward, widely supported pixel-based image that these basic programs can easily handle.
The key to a high-quality BMP is to choose a high resolution or DPI (Dots Per Inch) during the conversion process. Since you are "rasterizing" a scalable vector into a fixed grid of pixels, setting a higher resolution instructs the converter to use more pixels to draw the image. This results in a much sharper and more detailed final image.
This size difference is normal and it's because the two formats store data very differently. Your EPS file is small because it contains a set of compact mathematical instructions for drawing shapes and lines. Your new BMP file is large because it must store color information for every single pixel in the image grid, which requires significantly more storage space.
No, you can't. After the conversion to BMP, the original editable vector paths, text, and shapes are permanently transformed into a "flat" grid of pixels. While you can edit these individual pixels in a program like Microsoft Paint, you lose the ability to select and modify the distinct design elements as you could when it was an EPS file.
The transparency will be lost. The standard BMP format does not support transparent backgrounds. When you convert an EPS file that has transparency, the converter will automatically place your image onto a solid, opaque background, which is almost always white.
